Claremont Savings Bank Foundation Donates $76,000 in Grants to 25 Local Organizations

Jul 1, 2010 -  The Claremont Savings Bank Foundation announced today it has awarded grants totaling nearly $76,000 to 25 different nonprofits and charitable initiatives operating in the Upper Valley for 2010.

“We want to help those who help make the great Claremont area a better place,” said Candace Crawford, senior vice president of finance for Claremont Savings Bank.  “As a community bank, we find that the difference we can make in our communities is with the grants we make through the Claremont Savings Bank Foundation.  These grant support the numerous non-profit organizations that do valuable work every day.   Without a CSB Foundation grant, many of these fine projects would not be as effective or would not move forward.”

The recipients represent a wide range of targeted needs throughout Claremont, Newport, Charlestown, and surrounding towns.  The grants range in value from $360 to $5,000.  This is the eighth year the CSB Foundation has pledged money to deserving organizations.  Since 2003, it has donated nearly $500,000.

Among the largest grants awarded were $5,000 for replenishing food shelves for free meals at His Helping Hands in Claremont, $5,000 to install handicap accessible doors at the Claremont Senior Center, and $5,000 to the Claremont Conservation District to renovate a rail trail that runs through Claremont.

Some of the other projects the 2010 grants will partially fund include refurbishing the floor at the Claremont Soup Kitchen, purchasing an oven and a refrigerator/freezer for the Fall Mt. Emergency Foodshelf, and expanding the Children with Disabilities Program at Claremont Big Brothers Big Sisters.  Other nonprofit programs which received funding from the Claremont Savings Bank Foundation include the Library Arts Center in Newport, West Central Behavioral Health, the Plainfield Historical Society, the NH Association for the Blind, and the Boy Scouts.

According to Crawford, the CSB Foundation grants are not the only way Claremont Savings Bank gives back to the community.  “Each year, CSB gives up to $35,000 to smaller programs.  We also offer free financial and retirement seminars to the public.  And CSB employees roll up their sleeves at several community outreach projects, including the Claremont ‘Regeneration Day.’”
