The Claremont Savings Bank Foundation announced today it has awarded grants totaling nearly $79,000 to 34 different nonprofits and charitable initiatives operating in the Upper Valley for 2009.
“We’re a community bank and we view the members of our community as our shareholders,” said Candace Crawford, senior vice president of finance for Claremont Savings Bank. “The CSB Foundation is a wonderful way to give back to that community by ensuring these great projects that serve so many will continue.”
The recipients represent a wide range of targeted needs throughout Claremont, Newport, Charlestown, and surrounding towns. The grants range in value from $200 to $5,000. This is the seventh year the CSB Foundation has pledged money to deserving organizations. Since 2003, it has donated more than $400,000.
Among the largest grants awarded were $5,000 to the Claremont Historical Society to upgrade their electrical system; $5,000 to the Claremont Dental Initiative, which will cover half the cost of a dental hygienist; and $5,000 to Girls Inc. for cyber safe programs in Claremont and Charlestown.
Some of the other projects the 2009 grants will partially fund include a new conveyor belt for the Claremont Soup Kitchen, classroom Junior Achievement programs in Claremont by Upper Valley Business and Education Partnership, and memory screening for at-risk seniors by Trusting Hands Home Health Care. Other programs to receive funding include Sullivan County Hospice, the Claremont Senior Center, Charlestown Senior Citizens Club, and the Boy Scouts.
“This is not the only way Claremont Savings Bank gives back to the community,” Crawford said. “Each year, CSB gives up to $35,000 to smaller programs. Our employees volunteer for several community outreach projects, including the Claremont ‘Regeneration Day.’”
