Claremont Savings Bank has made a contribution of $5,000 to the Charlestown Police Department Building Fund. The donation will go towards outfitting the new facility with the amenities that law enforcement officers need to do their job. The contribution was made because the town could only move forward financially with a scaled-down facility.
“It was the right thing to do. While we understand that the taxpayers of Charlestown assume the financial responsibility for providing facilities for its various civic departments, we realize these are tough times and the needs of the town do not go away even in economic hard times,” said CSB President Sherwood Moody.

“The Charlestown Police Department has always been ready and willing to help Claremont Savings Bank whenever we’ve needed their services,” said Moody.
In March of this year, voters in Charlestown approved the expenditure of $350,000 for a much needed new police department. The building plan was for a “bare bones” design for basic operations. Select Board agreed that, if the building plan passed, they would go out to the community and ask for donations to fund many of the features that would be required to make the building useful and accommodating to the needs of the police department. The items that needed the extra funds included a standby generator, finishing and furnishing the basement, exterior landscaping, and asphalt for the parking lot.
